Where learning begins: preschool through kindergarten

The earliest years deserve reverence. In our Early Childhood classrooms, children ages two to six spend unhurried days in warm, beautiful rooms and on wooded paths, doing the real work of childhood, and building everything that later learning stands on.

Early Childhood Programs: Preschool & Pre-K / Kindergarten

Every Early Childhood class is small, with a lead teacher and an assistant, so every child is known. Before-school care and extended-day hours support working families.

  • Preschool (ages 2-4)

    A gentle first step into school life, offered in 3-day, 4-day, and 5-day rhythms, with mornings until 1pm or full days until 3pm or 4:30pm for ages 3+.

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten (ages 4-6)

    Pre-K and Kindergarten (ages 4-6)

    Two years of deepening play, responsibility, and readiness, in mixed-age classrooms where younger children learn from older ones and older children learn by leading.

Purposeful play, with a payoff

Play is not a break from learning here. It is the method. When children bake bread, they are measuring, sequencing, and strengthening the small muscles handwriting will need. When they follow a story told aloud day after day, they are building the vocabulary, memory, and love of language that carry a reader. When they negotiate a game of their own invention, they are practicing focus, patience, and friendship, the skills every classroom after this one will ask of them. Because every day includes baking, gardening, painting, storytelling, and handwork, our children arrive in first grade with the focus, language, and social footing all later learning stands on.

A day with a rhythm

Each day unfolds in a steady, predictable rhythm of activity and rest, indoors and out, that young children find deeply comforting. Mornings hold purposeful work and free play; there is a warm snack made together, time outdoors in every season, a story told by heart, and a quiet close. The room itself does some of the teaching: simple, natural materials, wooden toys, silks, and beeswax, invite the kind of open-ended play that screens and single-purpose toys cannot.
