Additional Fees and Costs
Extended Day Programs
The school offers Extended Day programs for children who may need to stay beyond the end of the school day. Extended Day fees for Preschool/ Kindergarten children are $6.25/hour prepaid and $8/hour if drop-in. Fees for Grades 1-8 are $5.75/hour if prepaid and $8/hour if drop-in.

Instrument Rental and Lessons

Beginning in Grade 3, students take private violin or cello lessons to further develop the skills acquired through the school’s rich music curriculum. Students admitted during middle school years will take private recorder lessons. For fall enrollment, it is especially helpful if the student begins lessons during the summer to prepare them for the year ahead. Later, after becoming fluent on the recorder, the student may elect to study another instrument. Parents are responsible for the cost of weekly lessons and renting or purchasing an instrument. These costs can range from $200 to $250 per month.

Field Trips
Small fees may be charged for class field trips, as well as year-end camping trips.

Annual Fund Drive
Each year, parents and friends of the school are asked to make an annual gift to supplement the cost of educating our students (tuition funds approximately 85% of our budget). Monies raised during the Annual Fund Drive are primarily used to support our tuition assistance program, as well as other school-related obligations. The amount of the gift is at the discretion of each family but we do expect 100% participation from our community. Gifts are tax deductible.

Capital Campaign
The Capital Campaign serves to renovate or build facilities for the school. During years when a capital campaign is conducted, families are expected to make a long-term sacrificial gift to support this effort. Gifts are tax deductible.

Tuition Assistance Information
The Waldorf School of Atlanta is committed to maintaining a student body that is socioeconomically diverse. Tuition assistance is available for families with demonstrated financial need. In return, we seek families who are committed to making this important investment in their child’s future. If you would like to receive information about tuition assistance, please check the appropriate box on the application form.

Financial assistance is considered separately from the admissions process and generally, only after a student has been accepted. Grants are made annually and a new application is required each year, as family circumstances and the program’s allotment may change. Generally, the maximum amount awarded is fifty percent off of tuition for Grade school students and forty-five percent for Preschool/Kindergarten students. Students in the 3-day Preschool/Kindergarten program are not eligible for tuition assistance.

The Waldorf School of Atlanta and many other independent schools use the National School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) to ensure that each school to which the student applies will have similar data on which to base its tuition assistance decisions. SSS makes initial estimates on the amount a family should contribute to their child’s educational expenses based on household income, savings, investments, assets, home equity, and other expenses. The Tuition Assistance Committee uses the SSS information as a guide to make award decisions. The Committee will also request and use the Waldorf School Tuition Assistance Form and a copy of your filed 2007 federal income tax return, including copies of W-2s, 1099s, and any attached schedules.

2008–2009 deadline for financial assistance: February 25, 2008
SSS Parents’ Financial Statement must be postmarked and mailed by this date (forms available in the office or you can also complete the form at www.nais.org). There is a $22 application fee. Late applications may jeopardize a family’s chances of receiving aid.

A copy of SSS Parents’ Financial Statement, The Waldorf School Tuition Assistance Form and a copy of filed 2007 federal income tax return, including copies of W-2s, 1099s, and any attached schedules due to the school.

If you are applying after the deadlines listed above, please submit documents immediately.
