Luminos Auction and Ball . . .
is the signature fundraising event to support the Waldorf School of Atlanta. Held each spring for the past twelve years, the event has grown to include a silent and live auction of one-of-a-kind arts and crafts created by faculty, parents, and students-along with premium items contributed by companies and other organizations in the Atlanta area.
Other charity auctions exist in Atlanta. None, however, provide the combination of unique hand-crafted items and experiences found at this event. And none are 100% dedicated to supporting the Waldorf primary school curriculum.
In years past, our auction has been graced by an array of whimsical and beautifully designed items, such as a child-sized garden cottage, complete with curtains at the windows and mail in the mailbox, and a stunning ebony and cherry music stand. Then there's the 15-foot wooden rowboat made by Grade Eight students-along with jewelry, quilts, tapestries, bedding, and dolls that would rival any folk art gallery.
Proceeds from this annual event are used to support the school's general curriculum. This year's 2008 Luminos Auction and Ball will be the best ever, as we celebrate twenty-two years of Waldorf Education in Atlanta!
About the School
The Waldorf School of Atlanta is the only private school in the state of Georgia offering a Waldorf curriculum to its students. Founded by a group of committed parents as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1986, the School has grown into an enriching, independent private school of the first rank. Many of our founding members are still active as faculty or parents. Today, the school nurtures over 250 students in pre-K, kindergarten, and first through eighth grades. We join over 160 other Waldorf schools in North America.
Our Mission
We inspire in our students a life-long love of learning through a curriculum that balances academic, artistic, and practical life skills. We provide an approach to education that respects the unique abilities of each child and fosters his or her capacity to think with clarity, feel with compassion, and act with purpose and social responsibility in the world.
Our Community
We include students, parents, teachers, faculty, alumni, administrators, trustees, friends and loved ones, vendors, suppliers, donors, and partners. We come from all walks of life, and we are of different backgrounds, colors, creeds, and political beliefs. Some of us are leaders in our professions and communities, and all are actively engaged in some way in commerce, education, government, and community.
We are united in our passion for an education which engages the heads, hearts, and hands of our children-one that lets them be children. We are enthusiastic about supporting the companies and organizations that lend a helping hand and have brought us where we are today.
